Raw Christmas Carnival Report
Tane Mathews O’Brien wins Division 1 and Overall Junior Raw Christmas Carnivals.
Illawarra kids had a fantastic Raw Junior Xmas carnival where 7 juniors competed over 4 days at 4 different velodromes. Illawarra was represented by
Emily Strumfin (Div2 then moved up to Div. 1)
Sarah Cliff (Div2 for 2 days)
Bronte Stewart (Div1 for 1 day)
Gabriel Jacobson Div4
Curtis Trujukla (Div1)
Tane Mathews O’Brien (Div1)
Ryan Britten (Div1 for 2 days)
Great overall results. In Div. 1 Emily and Bronte showing they could mix it up well with the boys, always competitive and never outclassed. Tane finished Div. 1 winner and overall winner. Ryan and Curtis 6th and 7th in Div1.
Sarah finished 7th in Div. 2 and Gabriel smashed it winning Div4 convincingly and coming 2nd overall.
In a tournament of what might have been for some of the kids, Sarah topped Div2 points on day 1 and was second highest scorer on day 2 with Ryan doing the same in reverse order in Div1, so both would have been very hard to beat over 4 full days. Gabriel had a few offs at Dunc Gray on Day 1, but then won everything managing to join Tane at the top of the leaderboard by Day 3 before the teammates finished overall 1st and 2nd, decided by the final double points wheel race in Div1.
Tane now gets his name on the trophy alongside other ICC members Mitch Wright and Kirk Cleaven.
Another great display of riding by our junior riders. Our ICC juniors keep getting faster and faster.
